A solution co-created by BOBST, UPM Specialty Papers,and Michelman, oneBARRIER FibreCycle, has won the Recyclable Packaging (Pre-Commercialized) category at Packaging Europe's Sustainability Awards 2023. Citeo and their partners shared first place.
Produced from renewable fibres, oneBARRIER FiberCycle is a truly ground-breaking paper-based high-barrier solution for foods with a long shelf life, such as coffee, instant soups and sauces, spices, and milk powders. It’s also recyclable in existing fibre recycling streams. The new solution provides an alternative to the multi-layered plastic food packaging that is difficult to recycle.
UPM Solide LucentTM provided a strong foundation for the development work. The paper is suitable for further processing as it is very smooth, dense and strong, while its structure enabled a lightweight and uniform coating.
The collaboration is a great example of the kind of packaging innovations the world needs right now. This new innovation enables brand owners to reduce the amount of fossil-based or non-recyclable materials and increase the use of renewable materials in their packaging.

oneBARRIER FibreCycle has also been honored by the prestigious IFCA STAR AWARDS 2023 this year. The Indian Flexible Packaging & Folding Carton Manufacturers Association (IFCA) is a national body, addressing to the needs of flexible packaging and folding carton Industry for the last five decades.
