(UPM, Helsinki, 28 November 2016 at 10:00 EET) - Junction, Europe's leading hackathon, was held last weekend in Wanha Satama, Helsinki. During 48 hours, teams of hackers and designers competed in creating the best hack in 11 different tracks ranging from virtual reality and IoT to healthcare and fintech.

UPM was one of the hosts of Junction in the IoT track and challenged participants to create digital solutions using supply chain data. The winner of UPM's track was a team consisting of Industrial engineering and management students from the Aalto University with their mobile application FindMyPaperRoll. The winning idea created by Antti Luiro, Tony Hämmäinen and Veikko Kovanen was about tracking the paper deliveries.

"The solution responded well to our challenge and can bring us clear business benefits. It is also easy to implement and can be piloted in a short time frame," states Linda von Schantz, Director, Business support in UPM Paper ENA.

Junction is a converging point for developers, designers, and entrepreneurs from across the world. The event received over 3,000 applications and 1,300 participated the event. The IoT track was the most popular of all the tracks with 650 applications. 200 applicants were chosen to participate in the IoT track and about half of them took part in the UPM challenge. The Junction event had altogether 1,500 visitors during the weekend. The winning hack of the entire event was Suju.Online from the Future Mobility track.
