Helsinki, Finland, 2011-05-12 13:12 CEST (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (UPM, Helsinki, 12 May 2011) – UPM is one of WWF Finland's main partners during 2011, United Nation's International Year of Forests. UPM is, for example, involved in Check Your Paper, WWF’s global database of eco-rated paper products for responsible producers, merchants and buyers. The database allows paper buyers to find products with the lowest environmental impact. Several UPM papers are rated in CYP, launched in January 2011 at PaperWorld, Germany.

The new Check Your Paper brochure, printed on one of UPM’s CYP rated paper – UPM DIGI Color laser 220 g/m2– presents the basics of the tool. CYP covers for example sustainable forest management, use of recycled fibre, carbon dioxide emissions, waste management and production’s impact in the water systems. The rating offers valuable information on UPM paper products, enabling an easy search for products and comparison.

UPM and WWF cooperate in several projects both in Finland and internationally. UPM promotes forest certification globally and applies for FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) -certificate for its forests in Finland. At the same time UPM broadens its forest service offering with FSC services to private forest owners. UPM’s forests in Finland are already PEFC certified. UPM is one of the partners of WWF’s New Generation Plantation Project. The joint initiative by WWF and partners, aims to identify, promote and communicate better practices for plantation design and management.

Check Your Paper is an open access, free of charge tool, which is available at http://checkyourpaper.panda.org/

The CYP brochure is available http://checkyourpaper.panda.org/files/dl/CYP_brochure_web.pdf.
