(UPM, Kouvola/Lappeenranta, 16 April 2010 at 14.00) – The employee negotiations at UPM Kymi and Kaukas mill, started in February, have now been concluded.

The negotiations concerned improving the mills' competitiveness through new ways of operating, which lead to personnel reductions. New ways of operating include increasing the co-operation between departments as well as the use of common resources between mills.

As a result of the negotiations, the number of mill personnel at Kymi and Kaukas will be reduced by altogether 200 persons, out of which 147 are shop-floor employees and 33 salaried employees. The reductions will mainly take place in 2010. Nearly half of the reductions can be achieved by using various pension schemes.
