(UPM, Helsinki, 18 February, 2009) – UPM is arranging six different types of technical courses during 2009. The focus is on printing and paper in general, but also more specialised print process trainings are available.
The first course, UPM Printing School, will be held on April 21-23 in Germany. It concentrates on CSWO/HSWO printing. The second UPM Printing School focusing on SFO/HSWO printing will be organised in October 2009.
The paper courses start with a 3-day UPM Mini Paper School in June followed by a 5-day UPM Paper School in September. All the trainings are located in UPM's training centre in Augsburg, Germany, and are held in English.
During 2008 UPM held two similar courses and the reception was very positive. "I found the training very interesting as it provided me with an excellent opportunity to deepen my knowledge of the different printing techniques. It also gave me valuable information of the paper’s role at the printing process," says Esa Silvennoinen, Technical Service Manager of Map Finland, who participated in UPM Printing School last year. "Especially handy were the training sessions with the printing simulator and several in-depth question and answer discussions during the course. The course provided me with valuable contacts and the general arrangements were at the top level!”
UPM Printing and Paper Schools are targeted to publishers, paper buyers, planners, printers, editors-in-chiefs, advertisers and industry partners. They provide information about main principles of paper making, different printing methods and their requirements for paper, as well as environmental questions. In the UPM Printing School the participants also get a chance to learn more about troubleshooting during the hands-on print simulator training.
Specialised and tailor-made courses available
Special 2-day hands-on Print Process Trainings for offset methods are also available. More than 10 beginner's and advanced levels will be organised this year and expert level training sessions will follow in 2010.
"We have experience in organising tailor-made courses for 1-5 days, starting from papermaking or printing basics for back-office personnel up to technical trainings for production people," says UPM's Technical Sales Manager Gerd Carl. "We are also active with training offering in the Asia-Pacific area. These seminars are held for instance at UPM Changshu training centre in China."
New topics and courses in different languages are planned for 2010.
