UPM has continued working on the expanded Value Added Printing of Newspapers VAPoNTM study. UPM has delivered paper for trial prints and given technical support for print runs. It has also provided its expertise concerning paper related issues. The project group's work is presented in IfraExpo 2007 in October. Recent work includes:
- Expanded and Updated VAPoN Economic Modelling – comparing alternative value added newspaper printing techniques with new data, including latest production experience with Inert UV printing
- VAPoN Value Analysis – includes new testing and analysis of increased colour chroma (gamut) findings, which enhance newspaper revenue potential
- New VAPoN Test Printing Results & Samples – latest VAPoN high speed Inert UV quality & performance results for large newspaper presses – Herold Druck, Austria, case study
"UPM contributed to VAPoN II, since VAPoN I has been the recent most successful PrintCity project, with a high global visibility. Our R&D has been involved in the project, especially on the UV process. The cooperation with project partners was excellent, based on good experience of the previous study", says Mr Hans-Joachim Kölln, Director, Marketing & Sales Services Germany.
"We believe that the PrintCity VAPoN project leads the world in understanding and application of value added newspaper printing techniques and material", says Paul Casey, Sun Chemical and PrintCity VAPoN project team leader.
The full PrintCity VAPoN report will be published in early 2008 including results from updated economic modelling, comparative technical & production performance and new user studies. VAPoN will be used at DRUPA 2008 as competence centre in PrintCity area. The other members of the project group are MacDermid, MAN Roland, MEGTEC, Océ, Sun Chemical and Eltex.
