UPM's young journalists at the IfraExpo 2005 stand in Leipzig

UPM, like the whole of the printing industry, is keen to promote the reading of newspapers and magazines among young people. So the company launched a project to publish a newspaper at IfraExpo in Leipzig, Germany. Two editions of ’News Planet’ will be created by trainee reporters aged 14 to 18 from Germany and Finland.

The young Finnish reporters have practised their writing skills in real life during the ‘Day as a Journalist’ learning program organized by Finland’s biggest national daily newspaper Helsingin Sanomat. The group of German writers comes from Berlin. They have visited UPM's Schwedt mill and written an article about paper making for Berliner Morgenpost.

In addition, Humboldt Gymnasium students from Leipzig will play an important part in producing the newspapers. They will finish the last stories at UPM's IfraExpo stand, participate in the final layout stages and help with the printing of ’News Planet’ on Océ's digital newspaper line. The newspapers will concentrate on topical issues that interest young people in Leipzig and other locations in Europe.

The News Planet editions will be printed digitally by Océ using UPM Digi Brite 52 g/m², produced in UPM's Schongau paper mill.

The UPM stand at IfraExpo in Leipzig Messe is located in hall 2, stand 2C400.
