UPM increases use of recovered paper by expanding the de-inking plant at Kaipola mill. After the investment the de-inking capacity will increase to 210,000 tonnes annually.
The share of recycled fibre will grow to the average of over 50 per cent in telephone catalogue paper and newsprint produced by the mill.
The expansion will be carried out by renewing processes in the current de-inking plant. The expansion will be finalized during the second quarter of 2005. The total investment value together with on going drum pulper renewal will be approximately EUR 18 million.
UPM is the world's largest user of recovered paper in the manufacture of printing papers. In 2003 UPM purchased around 2.3 million tonnes of recovered paper, which is more than one-fifth of the fibre raw material used by the company mills. UPM uses two thirds of paper recovered from households in Finland.
UPM Kaipola mill produces coated magazine paper, telephone catalogue paper as well as newsprint. The annual production capacity totals 700,000 tonnes.
