UPM-Kymmene to rebuild paper machine at Rauma mill

Archive 21.3.2003 0:00 EET

UPM-Kymmene will rebuild paper machine 2 at Rauma mill with an investment of approx. EUR 30 million. The aim is to increase the quality of uncoated magazine paper and also to reduce paper production costs. The production capacity will result in an increase of 30,000 tonnes annually.

The rebuild includes a new wire and press section as well as a new quality control automation system for PM2. Production for PM2 began in 1971 and after the rebuild it will technically be equal to a new production line.

UPM-Kymmene's Rauma mill has four paper machines, two of which produce light weight coated magazine papers (LWC) and two supercalendered magazine papers (SC) for offset and rotogravure printing. PM2 produces SC rotogravure papers which are used by magazine and directory publishers worldwide.

The annual paper production capacity of Rauma mill is 1.2 million tonnes and the mill employs 1,200 people.
