UPM-Kymmene organisation after Haindl acquisition

As announced on 28 September, 2001, all paper manufacturing in the UPM-Kymmene Group will form a new profit responsible business area called UPM-Kymmene Paper Industry. Mr. Jussi Pesonen, M.Sc. (Eng.), aged 40, was then nominated Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) with responsibility for this new Paper Industry business area.

UPM-Kymmene Paper Industry will now further be organised into three divisions: Magazine Papers, Newsprint and combined Fine and Speciality Papers. Integrated pulp mills will belong to the corresponding paper divisions.

In UPM-Kymmene Paper Industry, the following appointments have been made:

- Mr. Markku Tynkkynen, M.Sc. (Eng.), aged 49, has been appointed President, Magazine Papers division
- Mr. Hartmut Wurster , D.Tech., aged 46, has been appointed President, Newsprint division
- Mr. Jyrki Ovaska, M.Sc. (Eng.), aged 42, has been appointed President, Fine and Speciality Papers division
- Mr. Matti Lievonen, B.Sc. (Eng.), aged 42, has been appointed Executive Vice President, Business and Technology Optimisation
- Mr. Hannu Schildt, Graduate Forester, aged 57, has been appointed Executive Vice President, Global Marketing
- Mr. Harald Finne, M.Sc. (Psychology), MBA, aged 49, has been appointed Executive Vice President, HR and Support Functions
- Mr. Matti J. Lindahl, B. Sc. (Econ.), aged 55, has been appointed Executive Vice President in charge of implementation of Haindl integration.

On Group level, the following appointments and rearrangements have been made:

- Mr. Martin Granholm, M.Sc. (Eng.), aged 55, continues as Senior Executive Vice President and Deputy of the CEO
- Mr. Heikki Sara, D.Tech., aged 55, has been appointed Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategic Development
- Mr. Kari Toikka, M.Sc. (Econ.), aged 51 has been appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
- Mr. Georg Holzhey, D.Econ., aged 62, has been appointed Executive Vice President, Procurement and Logistics
- Mr. Jan-Henrik Kulp, B.Sc. (Econ.), aged 58, the present CFO has been appointed Executive Vice President as a senior financial advisor.He will retire in the summer 2003.

Mr. Kari Makkonen will continue as President of UPM-Kymmene Wood Working Industry, and Mr. Pentti Kallio as President of UPM-Kymmene Converting Industry.

The new organisation will be effective as of 1 January, 2002.

UPM-Kymmene Executive Team consists of CEO Juha Niemelä and the above mentioned persons. Mr. Reko-Aalto Setälä, General Counsel, Corporate Legal Affairs, will continue as the Secretary of the Executive Team.

The Group's Financial Review 2001 will be reported according to the new organisation. The historical quarterly financial information from 1 January, 2000 to 30 September, 2001 will be published before the release of full-year Financial Review. In the Group financial reporting, the Paper Industry will be reported by divisions, i.e. Magazine Papers, Newsprint and Fine and Speciality Papers.
