UPM-Kymmene Corporation has approved investment plans for the rebuilding of the paper machine, PM1, at the business unit Wisapaper in Pietarsaari.
The paper machine in Pietarsaari specializes in the production of high quality sack and kraft paper. The paper machine represents an essential part of the operations within the packaging division, UPM Pack. The production of bleached packaging paper grades complements the range of paper produced on other paper machines within the division.
The investment will enhance the technical possibilities of the machine to produce even higher quality sack and kraft paper grades. As a result the production capacity will increase by 25,000 tonnes. Investment in rebuilding the paper machine, PM1, totals 200 MFIM. The decision means continuous investment in kraft paper and kraft paper refinement within the packaging division.
The paper machine at Wisapaper was built in 1962 and later modernized during the 1980s. The current annual production capacity is approximately 135,000 tonnes, the turnover amounts to 600 MFIM and the personnel involved number 230 people.
Production manager, Lauri Ylihärsilä, has been appointed project manager for the investment project.
