UPM-Kymmene is investing around 60 million euros on renewing paper machine 1 at Rauma mill. The investment includes updating of the press section and coaters as well as changes on the drying section. The mill's production capacity of mechanical pulp will also be increased. After the changes Rauma PM 1 will be equivalent to a new production line.
The investment will enhance the quality of the paper and decrease the production costs. The capacity of the paper machine will increase from the current 250 000 to 300 000 tonnes a year. The increase in the pulping capacity will benefit also other paper machines at Rauma mill.
Rauma PM 1 is producing UPM Ultra which is high-brightness, wood containing coated magazine paper for rotogravure and offset printing. The product is mainly marketed to Europe and USA.
